Bangs!

In this weeks blog we continue our look at 2011 summer hair trends. We looked at the pixie cut last week and now its time to move onto our next trend: bangs.

While bangs to most of us are limited to being full and very square, there are actually many different types of bangs. Lets take a walk through the different types of bangs and who they suit.

Long & Full
Square face, Oval face

This version softens the face if tapered at the side  and can be wore a little wispy in the middle with heavier sides to accentuate the prettiest parts of the face.

Arching
Round face, Oval face

This must be done with caution on round faces. If the stylists isn't experienced enough, bangs can make a round face look rounder. But if done correctly, this style will flatter and soften the roundness.

Extra Long & Sweepy
Heart Shaped Face, most face shapes

Since heart shaped faces tend to be a bit top heavy, long sweeping bangs disguise a large forehead and draw attention to the eyes. Also this is a lovely way to frame the face. By varying the thickness and length of these bangs, you can lengthen, shape or even shorten a face. It is, in my opinion, the most versatile bang option. Its also a great way to grow out you other bang styles.

The summer of revival!

When I look through the hair magazines it seems that 2011 is the year of reinventing. The fashion capitols are taking our old favorites and updating them. Like the braid in our last post, many easy and classic styles are making a much welcomed come back.

This hair nostalgia is not only limited to styles but the same can be said for the cuts that are trending right now. Lets take a look at the pixie cut, bangs and the bob over the next few blog installments. All of these are making big waves on the runway and in your local neighborhood.


The Pixie Cut

As bought back by the stunning Emma Watson, the pixie cut is best suited to long or oval faces. But don't despair if you have another face shape! Come in for a consultation and very often the pixie cut can be augmented with a longer top and/or sides to better suit a different face shape. We can make it just right for you! Don't you think this style just screams summer? Its easy to manage, super cool and mega cute!

Summer Trends

This summer we have two fantastic trends that are easy to do and super cute to wear! The first is an old favorite: The Braid. And second is a brand new trend: Feathers.

The Braid
To the side, in pigtails, a French Braid, a messy braid,  the list of ways to wear it is only limited by your imagination! My personal favorite is a less popular style called the Waterfall Braid. Here is a great tutorial on the basics of the style.

The Feather

Some blame Steven Tyler for this trend as he has been sporting it for many years now. I'd prefer to thank the fly fishermen for my inspiration. Have you seen how pretty their flies are? They are exquisite!  No matter who the originator was, I'm just nutty about this style! The best part is that there are so many ways to wear them! Congratulations to Maxine Petersen, our very first Employee of the Month!


She is everything that a business owner wants. She is punctual, beautiful from inside out, sensitive to others needs and organized. But most of all it is her rapport with our guests that has won her this honor. Our guests are please with her patience, helpfulness and attentiveness to their needs and to any questions they have asked. She is knowledgeable about not only the administration of our salon but also about what you desire for your hair, promotions that save your money and products that help you maintain your hair at home.
