3 Fast Holiday Hair Tips!

1. Lighten Locks Instantly

If scalp grease (or too many products) have left your light hair looking like dirty dishwater, sprinkle translucent powder over your roots, then brush through. A perfect product to use would be Eufora's Powder Lift.

2.  Depuff Your 'Do in a Flash

To flatten frizz, dampen your hands with water and a drop of hand lotion, then gently pull your hair back into a French twist. Wait 10 minutes; take your strands down. Voilà — fuzz free!

3.Pull It Together with a Ponytail

There's nothing wrong with resorting to a ponytail — after all, it's the ultimate easy style. To do: Pull your hair back haphazardly with your fingers and spritz with hairspray, a recommended hairspray would be Eufora's Uplift Finishing Spray. Last, twist a stray tendril around your hair elastic; pin.

4 Fall Hot Hair Tips

1. Stop shampooing every day. The chemicals within shampoo can dry out your scalp; it’s best to shampoo three to four times a week. On the off days, wash hair with water and condition only the ends.

2. Designate a deep-conditioning day. Since we all love our hair tools and styling, it’s really important to deep-condition once a week. This will keep your ends from splitting and fraying, keeping that dried-out look away!

3. Remember the prep step. Before heat styling, always use a spray that protects hair against damage, and use use tools that are designed specifically to minimize heat damage with protective coating and an ionic generator.

4. Choose pretty-hair foods. Healthy, strong hair surprisingly has a lot to do with our diet. To get the healthiest hair, it's best to eat foods high in protein and omega fatty acids, such as salmon, nuts, eggs, and cheese.

5 Ways to Have Great Hair

1. Wash your hair correctly. Note: If you can, try not to wash your hair every day. Daily baths and showers will strip your hair of its natural oils.
2. Dry your hair in a careful manner. Blow dryers can be more benefiting than air-drying if you use them correctly. When you blow dry your hair, put it on a cool setting and hold distance it away to protect it from any heat. If you hold the blow dryer too close, the water in your hair can begin to boil. This is why hair dryers are known to be bad, but if you use it correctly it is very good. If you can, avoid drying your hair with heat as much as you can; it will only age your hair.
3. Avoid brushing your hair while it's wet. Wet hair is stretchier and has a tendency to break. Also, don't brush your hair too much. People say that brushing your hair 100 strokes a day will make it smoother -- but it will only cause breakage to your hair.
4.Go easy on styling products. Styling products can dry your scalp, if you use it directly at the scalp. Try not to use it often, but if you must, apply to hair strands and not the scalp. Then, style your hair at most 4 times a week to avoid damaging it.
5.Accessorize your healthy, gorgeous hair. Clips or barrettes can compliment beautiful hair. Coordinate them with your outfits or your personality. If you use elastics, use fabric-covered elastics to prevent breakage and tangles.

How to Give Boring Hair More Volume

1. Whatever your hair type, lather up with a clarifying shampoo weekly, then immediately replenish lost moisture and elasticity (the bounce-factor that's key to scoring swingy strands) with a thickening rinse-out conditioner.

2. Get to the root of the problem. Most high class stylist prefer a texturizing powder or spray over liquid lifters like hairspray.

3. Chill out—with the blowdryer. Using low or medium heats causes the cuticle [a hair's outer layer] to swell up and look fuller, while really high heat makes it collapse.

4. Steer clear of metal and plastic brushes when styling—opt for a mix of natural fibers and nylon bristles instead. Fine hair is more fragile and susceptible to breakage.

5. Amp it up. Boost volume with this quick fix: Spray an aerosol hairspray or dry shampoo onto your crown—section by section—then brush hair straight up into a high ponytail so the roots are vertical. Spray the base again and leave hair up for 10 minutes.

The Thermal Age

Buying a flat iron can be a great investment or a complete regret. There really is no point in buying the cheapest iron you can find or one that just looks good. You should treat this purchase as you would that of a car, you are going to need to get some good mileage out of it so take it for a test drive first.

In this now thermal age of styling, its imperative that you follow some simple rules in order to get the best results with the least damage to your hair.

Make sure your hair is clean and completely dry before you begin your styling session (unless you are using a wet-to-dry iron). Shampoo and Condition your hair with professional products that are moisture-rich or developed specifically for thermal styling. Any products from a previous styling will cause a build up, which if ironed will only damage your hair. Styling your hair while damp will not get the desired effect and you will literally "cook" your hair, so make sure it is totally dry. A leave-in conditioner is a good idea at this point for extra protection and moisture.

Apply a thermal protector before you begin to style. This is vital to the health of your hair, thermal protectors act as a barrier and prevent burning and breaking of the hair as well as adding to the overall shine. Ask your stylist to recommend one suitable for your hair. Do not over apply the product either as this can ruin your styling process, generally you only need small amounts.

How to make your hair look healthy and beautiful.

1. Squeeze-dry your hair. Prevent frizz by using a paper towel to gently wring water from your strands. The paper won’t create as much friction as a towel, so your hair ends up less frizzy. It also absorbs more water than a cloth towel, really speeding up your drying time.

2. Slip-proof your updo. Spray dry shampoo on a bobby pin before sliding it into an updo. The spray’s powdery texture gives the pin extra grip, which keeps it from sliding out.

3. Tend to your scalp, not just your strands. If your hair is misbehaving, maybe the problem is product buildup on your scalp—something clarifying shampoo won’t sufficiently cleanse. The result? Clogged hair follicles, weakened strands and possibly slowed hair growth. To get rid of that grime, apply moisturizing creme to your scalp at least once a week.

4. Shield your locks from harsh shower water. The water you wash your hair with may contain chlorine, minerals, even rust from old pipes. All these things can enter the cuticle of your hair and alter your hair color. To minimize discoloration you could invest in a hair filter.

5. Wash before you color. It’s a myth that unwashed hair takes dye better than squeaky-clean strands. In fact, your color-ist needs to see your actual color in order to determine the most flattering hue for you (and product buildup can make your mane look darker). So before your next appointment, suds up.

HAIR TIPS PART 2

1. Rinse your hair in cold water after you condition it. This will help your hair look shinier.

2. If your hair has gone frizzy or has fly-aways, use a leave in conditioner for dry hair.

3. A temporary fix for split ends, would be to work in an instant daily moisture conditioner treatment.

4. When choosing a hair color, the trick is to complement your skin tone in order to minimize flaws and bring out the best in your complexion.

5. When combing out tangles-use a wide toothed comb.

6. When blow-drying your hair straight, make sure your hair is completely dry to keep away frizz.

7. Don't wash your hair everyday unless its oily. Daily shampooing can strip away the natural oils needed to coat the hair shaft and reflect light.

8. Maintaining posture while having your hair done is a must, as it will give more even results in the cutting.

9. Quick Curls: Apply L'anza Urban Elements Bodifying Foam, or a similar product, to a 6cm section of clean, dry hair. Wrap hair around one, two, or three fingers. Clip each curl with a hair clip and blow-dry with a diffuser for 10 minutes. Remove the clips when dry and shake your hair loose.

10. Dry your hair gently, by blotting and squeezing, not by rubbing. NEVER brush wet hair.

Where did the word BARBER come from?

Do you know where the word Barber comes from? It is from the Latin word BARBA, meaning beard. Interestingly, free men of Rome were clean-shaven and slaves were forced to wear beards. Alexander The Great made his soldiers shave so that the enemy could not grab them by their beard. Barbering was originally introduced in Rome in 296 BC. Barbers were originally surgeons and dentists. They were one of the three catergories of the medical profession; others being physician and pharmaceutical, such as a herbalist. They extracted teeth, did blood letting, leeching, haircutting, and shaving, therefore becoming known as barber surgeons.

The orgin of the barbers pole is closely related to all of this. The patients used to hold onto a wooden pole during the procedurea. The original pole had a brass basin at the top representing the container, or vessel, in which the leeches were kept, and the bottom bowl represented the bowl used to recieve the blood. The red is for the bandages that got stained with blood during the procedures and the white stood for the clean bandages. Most interesting is that the bandages would be hung out to dry and they would often twist together in the wind, forming the spiral pattern that we associate barber poles with today.

Synergy Salon's THE REFINED ART OF COLOR.

THE REFINED ART OF COLOR

Synergy Salon’s 9 Step Process to amazing and long lasting color!

The majority of our guests, (a whopping 80%!), come to Synergy Salon for our coloring services. With a little over 5300 guests, we have provided 4000 color services since we first opened in 2008. Of that number, many guests choose to complete their look with a double or triple application of color, choosing from a broad selection of highlights, lowlights, face framing, dimensional color and more. With so much color, we have a lot of happy guests! If you would like to join our family of satisfied color guests, please come in and we can begin a journey together to beautify your hair.

First Step: Define Your Dream Color Look.

We are all very unique: your desired look is unique and each hair designer is unique. Knowing what you are looking for is essential because only after you have determined your ideal look can we can target your specific services and assign the right team member to meet your needs. Bring your ideas and dreams. Reinforce your thoughts with a picture or two if you are not sure but please bring no more than three.

Second Step: Protecting Your Scalp & Hair

Knowing how to prepare the day before your hair color service will bring the best results and give you the most comfort after your color service.
The first line of protection for your hair is your own body. Your scalp produces natural oils that accumulate and will help protect your scalp from the chemicals used in color treatments. You need those oils. Protect your scalp by refraining from washing or vigorous brushing the day before your color service. The old maxim ‘do not wash your hair two days before coloring’ remains proven and true! Although not washing your hair will not help the color to take better, it will protect your scalp — especially if your scalp is sensitive. If it is your first time for color, come in a couple of days in advance of your appointment for a patch test to ensure your safety and comfort. If you are an experienced color guest and know you have a sensitive scalp or skin condition, let us know if we need to process color differently.

Third Step: Consultation.

The consultation is like our first date. We will invite you to our Redken color lab with all the color swatches to pick from. Some of our ladies and gentlemen know exactly what color or color effect they want. Others will want a longer discussion of what is possible. A few will find that, after describing their desires, it will be sufficient to say, “I trust you,” and let your colorist determine the exact color dimensions.
Trust is a good thing. We appreciate when guests trust us. However, we still want you to know what decisions have been made for your hair color. Together, we will determine and show you a color based on your skin tone and other factors. We will show you how we plan to place highlights and lowlights to complement your hair cut. We will take into account your preferences, your life style and how you will be able to maintain your new color. Please note at Synergy Salon we only use the Redken color system.

Forth Step: Finding Your Color Style

How your hair is cut will make your color design more or less effective. Starting from the dreams and pictures you collected above, we will discuss how your color and cut work together. We can modify what you love in the photos and eliminate what you do not like. In the case that you are still not quite sure of your color and style choices, we will recommend that you stay closer to what you have now —at first.
Communication is important. Confidence in your decision is even more important. Thus we will also give you some time to look through hair styling books and explore other color and style options on the internet. Lastly, we always confirm with you what we are going to do, what needs to get done, and your total charges before we begin our services.

Fifth Step: The Application of Skill, Creativity & Color.

Hair color is as much of an art as it is a science. It is not as simple as painting a wall — especially when highlights, lowlights and multidimensional color effects are desired. While some guests want chromatic color with a modern stylistic “techno” feel to it, most want color that looks like their hair has always been that way. This takes skill and decisive judgment to blend effects and distribute color.

Sixth Step: Color Maturation

The processing of color chemicals is strictly science. There is no substitution for the time it takes. The color processing time can be between 30 to 55 minutes depending on your color service. That does not mean you need to suffer through that time! We will make you feel as comfortable and welcome as possible. We have complimentary refreshments available. You might decide on coffee, tea or a glass of wine with or without a cookie or two. A selection of fashion magazines is available for browsing or you may choose to browse the internet using our salon guest computer.

Seventh Step: Chemistry Finishing

When the color has set, the chemical coloring agents are removed by a thorough shampooing of your hair and scalp by one of our trained assistants. This is a critical quality assessment point. Your supervising stylist will examine your hair to assure that the color results are exactly as planned. If there is any unwanted variation it will be corrected at this point. Each person’s hair is unique in its acceptance of color. While the steps followed before are usually sufficient in providing the desired look, a few additional color adjustments may be needed if your stylist determines it so.

Eighth Step: Care-Conditioning

After we have determined your color is correct, we will take an extra step to make sure your color will last. We apply Redken Chemistry Color Extend to lock-in your hair color and to return your hair to its normal, smooth and silky feel. This care-conditioning step will allow your hair color to last much longer than other coloring systems available to you and it will insure that your hair maintains its integrity and strength.

Ninth Step: The Fabulous Finish

Remember the discussion above about how color works best with you styling your hair for the greatest effect? This is where that all comes together. Your stylist will not only style your hair but will apply styling products from our premium Eufora line to insure that your hair has shine and hold, that it is soft and has good volume. Your stylist will also show you how to achieve these salon effects at home. If you need additional tools to create the effect you desire, we offer a selection of salon quality equipment.

Love is in the Air

This is Romantic??

Valentine’s Day probably originated in ancient Rome.  It began as a fertility festival involving goat’s blood and leather whips (Eek!), but was eventually recast as a Christian feast day to honor St. Valentine.  Just who was this saintly hero?  It remains a mystery.  There are three guys named Valentine; all supposedly were martyred on February 14.  Just how any of this is romantic, I’m not quite sure.

Chaucer and Shakespeare began to link Valentine’s Day with romance in their poetry centuries later.  Exchanging hand-made cards on Valentine’s Day became a trendy way to break the icy formalities of Victorian England.  Catching on across the pond, enterprising Americans created Hallmark Cards, and launched the greeting card mega-industry we know today.

Recapture the Romance on Valentine’s Day
We’ve come a long way from handcrafted verses on lacy doilies.  Musical cards, chocolate candy, singing stuffed animals, boxer shorts––if you can print a heart on it, you can buy it for Valentine’s Day.  But, where’s the romance in that?

If you’re a crafty-cookie, the options are as endless as the pins on Pinterest.  From heart-shaped pizzas, to love altars lit with luminaries, ideas are only a few keystrokes away.   But, sometimes a thousand points of light are more blinding than inspiring.  I don’t know about you, but Pinterest gives me a headache.

When you really want to make a love-connection, you have to use the computer between your ears.  Romance begins with forethought and kindness.  At any age or stage of your relationship, the bottom line is, everyone wants to feel loved and appreciated.  Figure out what makes your sweetie tick.  If you make the extra effort to show you’ve noticed, it is a rejuvenating gift that keeps on giving.  Your loved one will automatically want to reciprocate.

“How Do I Love Thee?” Words Go A Long Way
Most of us today rely on Hallmark to say all the right words.  Not everyone is a poet––that’s how the greeting card industry stays in business.  But, a personally written sentiment, however clunky, can be uniquely meaningful to you both.  Only you can put that on paper.

Take some time alone and just marinate in the things you notice and appreciate about your partner.  It doesn’t have to me a poem.   Just a paragraph of what you love about your Valentine speaks volumes more than a store-bought card never could.  If you’re a person of few words., pull out the thesaurus.  Plunge in with both feet and give your best effort.  It is a risk, but one that conveys true, genuine feeling.

Love for the Long-Haul
Even if you’re in a happy long-term relationship, you will never outgrow the desire to be appreciated and loved.  Making original efforts to show affection are especially important for the long-term couple.  Giving candy and flowers over and over again each year can grow stale.  Show you are still emotionally engaged and keep your relationship vibrant.

No one knows better than you what floats your Valentine’s boat.  Is it food?  Then plan a gourmet meal in an intimate setting.  Is it a favorite show or event?  Get tickets.  The key to a perfect Valentine’s Day is love, personal attention, and thoughtfulness.

Invest time, thought, and ingenuity into creative altar building.  Snippets of your life together tell the story of your relationship.  Make an arrangement of personal milestones you have experienced together.  Paint them on smooth stones, or represent them with personal objects.   You have lots of memories to draw upon––use them.  You will end up feeling more romantic yourself just by putting it together.

Tips for Women
Men appreciate it when women turn the tables.  The lion’s share of Valentine’s Day planning is usually left to the men, but when a woman makes the plans and does the wooing, it keeps her man on his toes and makes the day exciting.

Take time to look your best.  Sparks will fly when you feel confident and your partner feels appreciated.   Plan a special surprise, but really go the whole nine yards.  Dress up.  Get your hair done, and a get a manicure.   An up-do, or a special style makes a statement.  The build-up will begin when you walk through the door looking like a million bucks.  Be playful, and spontaneous, say, “I love you” without words––do something to make him blush!  It will be an evening he’ll never forget.

Tips for Men
If you’re a man, hear this!  Valentine’s Day is not the day for practical gifts.  Don’t whisk her away to get her tires rotated, or present her with some useful kitchen appliance wrapped up in a bow.  Unless, of course, she’s just that kind of woman, and you know it will put her on cloud nine.  Frankly, I’ve never met any of these women.  Valentine’s Day is a time for investing in the trifles.  It doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg to impress, but get her something extravagant that she won’t be likely to splurge on for herself.

Has your partner been running ragged?  Refueling and recharging are oftentimes a great way to inject the romance back into a relationship.  It’s hard to be romantic when you’ve been burning the candle at both ends.   The gift of a day of pampering at the salon will make her feel loved and cared for, and she will leave feeling relaxed, rejuvenated and confident.

Alone, But Not Lonely
All by yourself on V-Day?  Love is in the air, but on Valentine’s Day, some are just reminded of their loneliness.  It’s a special day to celebrate love, but it doesn’t have to be romantic love.  Look around to see if someone in your life could use a boost.  Thinking about ways to bring sunshine to someone in need is a great way to celebrate the day.
